The beginning of our story..
For a number of years now I have contributed to Google by submitting info to Google maps, including reviews, pictures, adding missing places and businesses and other data (still waiting on my paycheck).
Google has cleverly put together a program and an online community called Google local guides that offers little badges and for the most part many silly an insignificant rewards for all the massive contributions that people provide Google for free.they do occasionally have Google local guide meetups in various larger cities across the country but for the most part we're doing a lot of leg work for free for Google.
local guides receive points for contributions and you gain levels and after so many levels you get little rewards, see the picture below:

An example of my contributions can be seen above, including the 780 photos I have uploaded at the time of this post what you have had almost four and a half million views.
recently I got a notification that my contribution level went up to level seven and that I would be receiving this wonderful fantastic amazing gift in the mail, ugly socks!
I have since decided that since Google has put so much thought and effort into the rewards for all the contributions their local guides provide that I have now created this blog and I will continue to add photos to Google maps but I will make sure I include one with said socks. Traveling around town? See a picture of socks at your local tavern? I was probably there.. shopping for sporting goods is there a nifty pair of socks near the tennis rackets and a picture? I was probably there.. how about fancy vacation destinations? Let's see how far these socks can go..
